The Driveway Debate

Friday, January 27, 2012

The Primetime This Week panel digs into the driveway debate - should Albertans be allowed to rent out their driveways?

Enterprising homeowners are looking to make a buck by renting out their driveways in parking-weary Calgary, and they could be facing a hefty fine. Residents have been posting spots online – offering to rent out their driveways to those looking for a place to park their car. But, in Calgary, sharing your spot could land you a fine between $1500 to $3 thousand dollars.

Joining us this evening is Michael Phair, former Edmonton City Councilor; Marty Chan, Playwright and Author; and in Calgary, Rob Breakenridge, Corus Radio Network.

The Canadian Pediatric Society sparked debate this week by calling on all provinces to make helmets mandatory for skiers and snowboarders of all ages. While their use is urged in Alberta, it's not mandatory. Edmonton Oiler Taylor Hall may have unintentionally helped the cause after receiving a huge gash to his forehead during pre-game warm-up. The team may wear helmets during warm ups from now on.

With us on the Primetime This Week Panel is Steven Sandor, Editor of Avenue Magazine in Edmonton; Jeff Samsonow, Blogger And Creator Of "The Edmontonian"; and Rob Breakenridge, Corus Radio Network.
