Brewing an Alberta Advantage

Original Air Date: Monday, October 15, 2012

The Redford government is considering changes to the province's beer taxation system.  It follows concerns raised jointly by eleven small Alberta brewers who say they overwhelmed with competition.

The brewers are calling on the province to adjust the tax scale to further encourage growth and new start-ups.  Key to their recommendations is limiting incentives to small companies who actually produce their beer in Alberta.

What will it take to ensure a level playing field in the beer aisle - and why don't all Alberta brewers agree with the recommendations?

Joining us are
Ravinder Minhas, Co-Founder of the Minhas Micro Brewery in Calgary; and Neil Herbst, Owner and Founder of the Alley Kat Brewing Company in Edmonton.
