Turbine Tension

Original Air Date: Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Alberta has the highest percentage of total installed wind generation capacity in the province. But as those tall white turbines spring up across the prairies, what is harnessing the wind doing to the land?

Advocates say wind is the greenest source of power available to us and we should encourage more wind farm development. Others caution wind power isn’t as green as it looks and needs heavier regulation to move forward.

Should we welcome these gentle giants with open arms? Or take a closer look at the footprints they leave in their wake?

Joining us for this discussion are
Dan Balaban, Founder, President and CEO of Greengate Power Corporation; Katie Rasmussen, Conservation Specialist with the Alberta Wilderness Association; and Tim Weis, Director of Renewable Energy and Efficiency Policy with the Pembina Institute.
