Expanding Alberta Beef Scandal

Original Air Date: Monday, October 01, 2012

The list of recalled items is now so long you are advised to ask your grocer if it buys from Brooks processor, XL foods. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency added dozens of items to a two week recall including roasts, ribs, steaks and more ground beef.

Premier Alison Redford urged the public to keep buying beef, insisting it is safe to eat. She also commented that XL Foods needs to get reopened this week.

Why can't authorities control the contamination? Is beef safe? What is the looming damage for ranchers?

We speak with Dr. David Chalack, Chair of the Alberta Meat and Livestock Agency and a Veterinarian.
