Alberta Beef Recall
Original Air Date:
Wednesday, September 26, 2012
The number of products added to the nationwide beef recall continues to grow. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency warned against eating Kirkland brand strip loin steaks sold at an Edmonton Costco store.
According to Alberta Health Services, four Edmonton cases of E. coli have been linked to the steaks. While sourced from Xl Foods, the Alberta company involved in a massive beef recall, investigators are now trying to determine where in the supply chain the meat became tainted.
What will growing fears, over the safety of Alberta beef, do to consumer confidence? What will it take for the cattle industry to weather the storm?
We speak with Ellen Goddard, Agricultural Economist in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Alberta.
