Pork Industry Crisis

Original Air Date: Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Alberta Pork Producers are feeling the pinch - the drought south of the border has driven up feed costs for them, resulting in lower prices for their hogs.

For some, that means not being able to pay the bills - producers in Manitoba are calling the situation the worst crisis in the history of the industry, and say the federal government needs to step in with a cash injection.

How desperate is the situation for Alberta producers? Will a cash injection from Ottawa help? Could this crisis damage the industry?

We speak with Darcy Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Alberta Pork.
