Alberta ATVs and Safety

Original Air Date: Thursday, September 20, 2012

Citing a significant number of injuries and deaths, the Canadian Pediatric Society is calling for a ban of children under 16 from riding ATVs. The doctors contend kids lack the strength and skill to control off-road machinery.

ATV proponents say such a ban would not be well received in Alberta. Many feel a heightened focus on training and mandatory helmet usage would help save lives.

Do children under 16 belong at the controls of all-terrain vehicles? Which trail should Alberta follow to make the sport safer?

Joining us for this discussion is the President of the Canadian Pediatric Society Dr. Richard Stanwick; followed by Dr. Donald Voaklander, Director of the Alberta Centre for Injury Control and Research at the University of Alberta.
