Peace Officer Safety

Original Air Date: Friday, August 17, 2012

As police continue to investigate, family and friends are preparing a memorial for Peace Officer Rod Lazenby who was killed in the line of duty last week. Now Alberta's Solicitor General and Justice Minister Jonathan Denis has launched a review into how peace officers work.

While no deadline has been set, the review will consider if officers should carry weapons and if they should work with partners. Meantime, an online petition has been launched calling for peace officers to have the same protection as law enforcement officers.

How crucial is this review? Does the profession of peace officers need to evolve?

We speak with George Woof, President of the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers.
