United Church Rejects Gateway Pipeline

Original Air Date: Wednesday, August 15, 2012

The 41st General Council of the United Church of Canada takes place in Ottawa this week. The church's highest legislative court assembles every three years to set policy and elect a new moderator.

The church is no stranger to taking a stand. They've just issued a public statement that categorically rejects construction of the Gateway Pipeline, which would run from Northern Alberta To Kitimat, British Columbia.

Why is the United Church against the pipeline? Why does the church speak out about such divisive issues?

Joining us from Ottawa where he's attending the general council, former moderator, outspoken Calgarian, the Very Reverend Dr. Bill Phipps.
