Alberta's wheat harvest is underway and for the first time in 67 years it is not illegal for farmers to sell to anyone but the Canadian Wheat Board, an act previously punishable by fine or imprisonment.
Fifty-one per cent of producers voted for marketing freedom, but selling on the open market without guaranteed returns, could be a steep, competitive learning curve. Will farmers survive? Will they flourish?
Joining us for this discussion is Albert Wagner, Director for the Alberta Barley Commission; and Gord Flaten, Vice President of Grain Procurement from the Canadian Wheat Board.
