Alberta Vehicle Emissions - B.C. has AirCare. Ontario has Drive Clean. But in Alberta, we have no restrictions on the cars or trucks we put on the road, no matter how much black exhaust they leave in their wakes.
Some say it’s time for the province to regulate, thereby forcing aging, high-polluting vehicles into retirement. Others say mandatory emissions testing is costly, cumbersome, and doesn’t have a significant impact.
Is it time for Alberta to take action on emissions? Or is calling it a problem just blowing smoke?
Joining us tonight is Laurie Blakeman, Alberta Liberal MLA and Environment Critic; Don Szarko, Director of Advocacy and Community Services with the Alberta Motor Association; and Joel Wood, Senior Research Economist with the Fraser Institute’s Centre for Environmental Studies.
