Alberta Health Services Expenses

Original Air Date: Thursday, August 02, 2012

“I am outraged and the government is outraged.”

Those are the words Alberta Health Minister Fred Horne used to describe his emotions over $346,000 in lavish expenses wracked up by Alberta Health Services Chief Financial Officer Allaudin Merali in three years. Expenses approved by former Capital Health Region CEO & current AHS Board Member Sheila Weatherill.  Both Merali and Weatherill have suddenly resigned.

Why was Merali hired after similar questions were raised over his expense claims at his last job? Why are such expense accounts secret? Will the money be repaid? Will the executives collect severance?

Many Albertans find this scandal flat out revolting, and Scott Hennig is one of them. He is Alberta Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Find out what the frontline workers on our Health Panel have to say.
