Alberta’s Fiscal Time Bomb

Original Air Date: Wednesday, August 01, 2012

The Redford government's first budget was criticized as over ambitious from day one. Five months later, the Fraser Institute releases a study called Alberta’s 2012 Fiscal Time Bomb which reports our provincial deficit will surpass the $886 million government already plans.

The report blames government projections on resource revenue and economic growth much higher than private sector forecasts. It says overspending is eating up provincial assets.

How high could the deficit grow? How should our government address it?

Joining us for this discussion is Mark Milke, author of the study entitled Alberta's 2012 Fiscal Time-Bomb. Mark is Senior Fellow and Director of Alberta Policy Research with the Fraser Institute.
