Immigration Marriage Fraud

Original Air Date: Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Proposed legislation to decrease immigration marriage fraud would require foreigners to live with their Canadian sponsor spouse for two years, or have their residence status revoked.

Critics worry the crack down could put sponsors, who wind up being abused, in great danger.

How great is the potential harm? Would it outweigh the benefits? How should our government crack down on immigration marriage fraud?

Joining us for this discussion is Alberta specialists - Dr. Noorfarah Merali, Professor at the University of Alberta who has conducted immigration policy research for the past 10 years; and Raj Sharma, Immigration Lawyer with the Calgary firm Stewart, Sharma, Harsanyi.
