National Parks Threatened?

Original Air Date: Thursday, July 26, 2012

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society says our national parks are under threat from too much development and now too little funding for scientific research and wildlife monitoring.

Parks Canada maintains they are well staffed and world-leading when it comes to programs and conservation; and new developments can open up our parks for all visitors.

Will our national parks feel federal cuts to staffing and could wildlife bear the brunt? Or will Canada continue to lead the way in preserving the ecological beauty of our natural spaces.

Joining for this discussion is Tracy Thiessen, Executive Director for Mountain Parks with Parks Canada; and Kelly Sloan, Executive Director at the Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society - Northern Alberta Chapter.
