Workplace Safety in Alberta

Original Air Date: Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Alberta’s Auditor General says the province is doing poorly at identifying companies with the worst safety records. That, in a report following up on a two-year old recommendation to crack down on high-risk employers.

Critics of the idea say it may be unfair to employers and that government should focus more on educating workers, not shaming their bosses.

How does Alberta target companies with our worst safety records? What is the best way to improve conditions?

Joining us for this discussion is Randy Corbett, Alberta Union of Provincial Employees' Union Representative on Occupational Health and Safety; and Steve Eichler, a Partner at Field Law, specializing in Occupational Health and Safety.
