Aboriginal People Living Off-Reserve

Original Air Date: Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Stats Canada puts the population of Alberta's aboriginal peoples living off-reserve at 60 per cent, very near the national average.  Edmonton alone has the second largest urban aboriginal population in Canada, at more than 52,000.

To ensure those living off-reserve have a voice, the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples is travelling western Canada for a better understanding of issues like unemployment, health care, education and violence against women.

What are the biggest challenges facing aboriginal Albertans living off reserve? What's being done to address those issues?

Joining us for this discussion is Dwight Dorey, National vice Chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.
