“Unacceptable" - that's how many in the Fort McMurray region are responding to the much anticipated report on Highway 63. The report includes 22 recommendations on accelerating the twinning process and improving safety on the deadly stretch of tarmac where more than 125 lives have been lost since 1990.
While no specific timeline has been given for fast-tracking construction, Transportation Minister Ric McIver points to a potential target of 2020. Among several safety initiatives suggested, there will be vehicle seizures and fines up to $10,000 for those caught speeding on Highway 63.
Joining us now is Theresa Wells, a blogger and writer who advocates for the Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo Region.
