Alberta Breakthrough: Colon Cancer

Original Air Date: Wednesday, June 20, 2012

No one likes the test for colon cancer, a fecal smear you provide from home. But the world hasn't seen a new test in fifty years. Now, researchers at the University of Alberta are developing a simple urine test which would replace the fecal smear.

If pre-cancerous polyps aren't caught they become cancer - completely preventable colon cancer.

Dr. Richard Fedorak is Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta and one of the doctors developing this new test.
