Security Screening Process

Original Air Date: Thursday, June 21, 2012

A murderous rampage that claimed the lives of three armoured vehicle guards - allegedly at the hands of a co-worker - has left some Albertans wondering if hiring procedures are thorough enough.

Standards for police and RCMP involve psychological assessments and months of training. While armed guards undergo firearms licensing and background checks, some wonder if measures for law enforcement should also be applied.

What lessons could be learned from the deadly shootings? Should there be a higher level of training and screening for armoured truck guards in Alberta?

Joining us for this discussion is Hugh Richards, Instructor of Criminal Justice at Lethbridge College; And Rick Eichel, Secretary, Treasurer, and Principal Officer for Teamsters Local 362, the union representing armoured car employees.
