Bringing Ophthalmologists to Ethiopia

Original Air Date: Monday, June 18, 2012

The need for glaucoma specialists in Ethiopia is staggering.  Over three-million people live with the blinding disease and only three Ethiopian ophthalmologists have in-depth glaucoma training.  One Ethiopian doctor is travelling across the world in hopes of changing that. The International Mentorship Program, based at the University of Alberta, gives ophthalmologists the skills and training needed to combat the condition globally.

Joining us this evening is Ethiopian Ophthalmologist Dr. Girum Gessesse; and Dr. Karim Damji, the University of Alberta professor who helped develop the program.
