Original Air Date:
Friday, June 15, 2012
A botched robbery of an armoured vehicle at the University of Alberta’s Hub Mall June 15, left 3 people dead and one in critical condition. Twenty-one-year-old Travis Brandon Baumgartner was part of the crew from G4S Security that was restocking bank machines at the University of Alberta’s Hub Mall, when shooting erupted.
Later that day, Edmonton Police filed Canada-wide warrants for Baumgartner’s arrest, saying they had "reasonable and probable grounds" to believe Baumgartner was responsible for the deaths.
When a traumatic event like this occurs, how does it affect people who were nowhere near the site? What about the employees of G4S and the students on campus? What can people closely connected to this violent act expect to experience in the weeks and months ahead?
We speak with Dr. Gary Meiers, Registered Psychologist who specializes in post-traumatic stress.
