Overseeing the Oil Sands

Original Air Date: Friday, June 15, 2012

Alberta's Environment Minister will attend a United Nations conference on sustainable development next week. Here at home, new expert recommendations for provincial environmental monitoring are due June 30th, and a federal-provincial plan is promising more checks and openness.

Should oil sands oversight be government-run or fully independent? Are recent government initiatives enough?

Joining us for this discussion is Diana McQueen, Alberta’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development; Don MacDonald, Instructor at MacEwan University and a former Senior Policy Advisor at Alberta Environment; Marc Huot, Oil Sands Policy Analyst at the Pembina Institute; and Richard Dixon, Executive Director of the Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment at the Alberta School of Business, and formerly Head of Strategic Intelligence at Alberta Environment.
