Coverage for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Original Air Date: Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Bill One before the Alberta Legislature will make it easier for emergency personnel to get coverage for post-traumatic stress disorder by removing the burden of proof the condition is work-related.

Critics say this is a positive step that doesn't go far enough: it's not only emergency workers who deal with trauma. There are families to consider, as well as those who work in other professions.

Are those suffering from PTSD getting the help they need? Should coverage be extended to all professions and their families?

Joining us for this discussion is Brad Hoekstra, Secretary of the Alberta Firefighters Association; Kimberley Law, Registered Psychologist; and Guy Smith, President of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees.
