Alberta’s Food Security

Original Air Date: Tuesday, June 05, 2012

A United Nations Special Rapporteur for food is criticizing Canada, saying the poorest people in our country cannot afford to feed themselves.

The federal government shot back saying that other countries in the world have bigger food issues and the UN was wasting its time examining Canada.

Is the gap between those who can and can't afford to eat growing? Should Alberta adopt its own food strategy to ensure no one here goes hungry?

Joining us for this discussion is Joe Rosario, Sr. Economist of Western Centre for Economic Research specializing in International Trade and Agriculture; Paul Hughes, interim Chair with the Alberta Food Policy Council; and Humphrey Banack, Vice President of the Wild Rose Agricultural Producers.
