The Plan to End Poverty

Original Air Date: Thursday, April 26, 2012

During the campaign trail Premier Alison Redford promised a 10 year plan to end poverty, making Alberta the 11th province to put in place such a strategy. However she didn’t attach a dollar figure to the idea.

Advocates having been pressing the province for such a plan for years - pointing to the success of other provinces, like Newfoundland Labrador, that saw its poverty rate fall five per cent over five years.

How would such a plan be implemented? Would existing social services have to change? Is a decade too ambitious?

Joining us for this discussion is Joe Ceci -- Coordinator with Action to End Poverty Alberta and a former Calgary Alderman.
