Calgary Milk Bank

It was 17 months in the making, but the second human milk bank in Canada is now open in Calgary. The milk bank has been screening mothers since January but is about to make its first distribution of milk.

Critics often question how sanitary the sharing of human milk can be, but milk banks argue they have an extensive screening and pasturing process ensuring the milk is safe to distribute.

How great is the need for another milk bank in Canada? How many donors are waiting to pass along their milk? When will the first distribution be made?
 
We speak with Jannette Festival, Lactation Consultant and the Executive Director of the Calgary Mothers' Milk Bank.
