Daffodil Campaign 2012
Where:
Kingsway Mall March 31-April 2; or West Edmonton Mall April 5-7
When:
Saturday, March 31, 2012
We are the Canadian Cancer Society and we are fighting back. We have more impact against more cancers in more communities than any other cancer charity in Canada, yet there is more work we need to do. The daffodil is the Canadian Cancer Society’s symbol of hope and courage. Daffodil Month kicks off with Daffodil Days running from March 31st to April 7th, and ends with Daffodil Day on April 27, 2012. New this year is our daffodil pin – worn as a symbol of support. We’re asking Canadians to join the fight against cancer by wearing their daffodil pin throughout the month of April and, most importantly, on Daffodil Day. Daffodil pins are available for a suggested minimum donation of $1 at locations throughout the community. Daffodil Days takes place March 31st to April 7 in communities across Alberta and the Northwest Territories this year, kicking off Daffodil Month in April. During Daffodil Days, volunteers will be selling daffodils for only $6 a bunch. $10.00 bunch with vase, $8.00 4" Pots and $275.00 for case of 50 bunches. Last year, more than $525,000 was raised through Daffodil Days. Money raised through the sale of daffodils funds the most promising cancer research, community support services for people living with cancer, comprehensive cancer information, prevention initiatives, and advocacy for healthy public policies.

Fallen 4 Marathon
Where:
Mayerthorpe to Whitecourt - Road Race
When:
Saturday, June 02, 2012
The Fallen 4 Marathon Society successfully hosted the Annual Marathon Race from Mayerthorpe to Whitecourt, Alberta with 1200 runners participating in 2011. The event welcomes runners from international destinations, across Canada and all over Alberta. This is an outstanding achievement, only possible through the hard work and dedication of our sponsors and volunteers. We have already commenced preparations and planning for the 2012 Marathon event on June 2.
Our goal this year is to expand participation to 1500 runners. As well John Stanton, a running icon, will be returning for a second year to lead the 5km run.
The Fallen 4 Marathon is an event that unites the neighboring communities of Mayerthorpe and Whitecourt in remembrance of the tragic event that took the lives of four local RCMP.
It also promotes the principles of healthy living and fosters a sense of community for our residents. 2011 was an incredible year and we were able to provide donations totaling $31,000 to 17 local non-profit organizations. Over the past three years the Fallen 4 Marathon Society has donated $93,500 back to the communities.
