Stephan G. Stephansson was born in Iceland in 1853. He brought his family to the Markerville area in 1889. There, within the view of the Rockies, he homesteaded — farming by day and writing by night. His prolific literary output has since gained him renown as one of the greatest poets in the western world.
Restored to its 1927 appearance, the Stephansson home offers a glimpse of Alberta's Icelandic heritage and the life of this pioneer-poet.
